The Somerville Black Electric Recliner Armchair is the single-seat version of the Somerville range, finished in the same true black upholstery as the Somerville sofas and measuring W110cm x D105cm x H95cm.
How the Somerville is built
Every seat in the Somerville reclines under its own motor. That is the part worth understanding before you choose a size: on the 3 seater the outer two seats each have their own button, so two people can sit at completely different angles without negotiating, and the backrest and footrest travel out together and stop wherever you release the button rather than snapping to a fixed position.
USB charging ports are built into the frame, so a phone charges from the seat instead of a wall socket across the room. On a sofa people stay in for a whole film this is the difference between the recline getting used and everyone sitting upright on the edge to reach a cable.
The upholstery is a premium leather in black or tan. It wipes clean in seconds, which matters more here than on a fabric sofa because reclining seats collect marks along the headrest and the footrest edge — the two places hands and heels land. Underneath, plush foam padding sits on a hardwood frame.
Allow clearance behind the sofa before you measure up. The frame is 105cm deep closed and 95cm tall, and a seat needs room to travel back as the footrest comes out. The 3 seater runs 220cm, the 2 seater 204cm and the armchair 110cm, so a pair of armchairs takes almost exactly the wall a 2 seater would.

How do I clean it? Wipe the leather with a soft damp cloth and dry it straight away; do not let liquid sit in the seams. Use a leather conditioner two or three times a year to stop the hide drying out, and keep the sofa away from radiators and direct sunlight, which crack and fade it. Never use solvent, bleach or an abrasive pad. Keep the reclining mechanism clear of toys and cables, and unplug the transformer before checking anything underneath.

Before you order, please measure. Check the width and height of doorways, hallways, stairwells and any tight turns on the route to the room. Most of our sofas arrive in sections or with removable feet, but corner and U-shape units are large single pieces — the dimensions for each part are listed under Dimensions below.
Full dimensions for this model are listed in the description above. Measurements are taken at the widest and deepest points including arms and cushions, and may vary by up to 2cm as every frame is finished by hand.
Assembly is minimal — typically the feet screw on by hand and corner or modular sections clip together. No tools are needed for most models. Recliner and electric models are supplied ready to use; simply connect the supplied transformer to a standard socket.
Velvet
Brush the pile gently in one direction and vacuum on a low upholstery setting every couple of weeks. Blot spills immediately with a clean dry cloth — never rub, as this crushes the pile. Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to prevent fading.
Bouclé & Chenille
Vacuum with an upholstery brush, never a beater bar, which can pull the loops. Snagged loops should be trimmed level with scissors, not pulled. Blot spills with a barely damp cloth and allow to air dry.
Genuine Leather
Dust weekly with a dry microfibre cloth and condition every 6–12 months with a quality leather cream to keep the hide supple. Keep at least 30cm from radiators and direct heat sources, which dry and crack the surface.
PU & Faux Leather
Wipe clean with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid solvents, bleach, alcohol wipes and abrasive cleaners. Keep away from direct heat and prolonged sunlight.
All fabrics
Rotate and plump loose seat and back cushions weekly so they wear evenly. Foam and fibre fillings settle by up to 10% in the first few months — this is normal and not a fault.
Every sofa carries a 5-year guarantee on the frame and a 1-year guarantee on the mechanism, springs and electrics against manufacturing faults.
