What makes a recliner sofa 'luxury'?
A recliner sofa has seats that tilt back and raise a footrest, either with a lever or a button. Our luxury recliner sofas add thicker foam, adjustable headrests, cup holders and consoles on some models, and premium fabrics or leather, so they are as comfortable upright as they are reclined.
Manual or electric?
- Manual recliners use a lever or pull-tab and don't need a socket. Simpler and slightly cheaper.
- Electric recliners move smoothly to any angle at the touch of a button and can include USB charging. Place them within reach of a plug socket.
Layouts
Choose two-seater and three-seater recliners for classic rooms, or a recliner corner sofa for larger spaces. On most sofas each end seat reclines independently; middle seats are usually fixed. Allow 30–40cm behind the sofa for the backrest to tilt and 60cm in front for the footrest.
Fabrics
Leather and faux leather are easy to wipe and develop a soft patina; velvet and chenille are warmer and hide wear well. Darker colours are most forgiving in family rooms.
Care
Keep the reclining mechanism free of objects and children's toys, avoid slamming the footrest, and don't sit on the extended footrest. Vacuum fabric weekly and condition leather every few months. Electric models should be unplugged before cleaning.
