What is a divan bed?
A divan is a fabric-covered base on castors or glides with a mattress on top and a headboard attached to the back. Its strength is storage: two or four drawers built into the base, with no slats to creak. Because the base is solid, divans are also the firmest-feeling foundation for a mattress.
Two drawers or four?
Two drawers (usually on one side, or one at the foot) suit a bed pushed against a wall; four drawers need clear space on both sides. Drawers are typically 20–25cm deep — enough for bedding and out-of-season clothes. Divan vs ottoman
A divan gives easy-access drawers you can open without lifting the mattress; an ottoman bed gives more total storage but you lift the whole base. For a frame with a statement headboard and no storage, see upholstered beds.
Sizes and mattresses
Divans come in single, double, king and super king; many are sold as sets with a mattress, or choose from our mattresses. Standard divan base height is 35–38cm, so with a 25cm mattress the top of the bed is around 60cm.
