What is a ceramic and sintered stone dining table?
Sintered stone is made by compressing natural minerals under extreme heat and pressure into a dense slab that is harder than granite. Like ceramic it is non-porous, stain-, scratch- and heat-resistant and needs no sealing, but it is thicker, stronger and can be finished with a through-body pattern. It is the material most of our extending tables use because the leaves stay perfectly matched.
Marble vs ceramic vs sintered stone vs glass vs wood
- Natural marble: unique veining, cool luxury feel; needs sealing and prompt spill care. Browse marble tops.
- Ceramic: consistent marble effect, non-porous, lighter; hard to repair if chipped. Browse ceramic tops.
- Sintered stone: the toughest option, non-porous, ideal for extending tables. Browse sintered stone.
- Glass: light-enhancing and modern; shows fingerprints. Browse glass tops.
- Wood: warm and repairable; needs oiling and coasters. Browse wooden tops.
If you are undecided, compare with our natural marble collection.
Sizing
As a rule of thumb, allow 60cm of table edge per person and 90cm of clearance behind each chair so people can sit down and walk past.

Caring for a marble or stone table top
Care depends on what the top is made of, so check the product page first.
- Natural marble is porous. Wipe spills straight away (wine, citrus and coffee can etch it), clean with a pH-neutral cleaner and a soft cloth, use placemats and coasters, and re-seal once or twice a year.
- Sintered stone and ceramic tops are non-porous, heat- and scratch-resistant, and need only a damp cloth. No sealing required.
- Never drag a table across the floor — lift it — and keep heavy items off the overhang.
Finishing the room
